LG is withdrawing from the mobile market

It will focus on other areas, such as electric vehicle components.

LG announces the end of the mobile division, a decision approved today by the company's board of directors.

LG's strategic decision to move away from the highly competitive mobile phone industry will give the company the opportunity to focus on developing areas that include electric vehicle components, interconnected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), B2B solutions, as well as other platforms and services. In its announcement, it did not mention anything about "continuing to focus on the construction of screens", which we hope will not mean unpleasant announcements in the future.

The existing stock of LG mobile phones will continue to be available for sale. LG will provide technical support and software upgrades for consumers who already have mobile products for a specific period which will vary depending on the region. LG will work closely with its suppliers and business partners throughout the termination of the mobile segment. Job details will be determined locally.

Going forward, LG will continue to leverage its mobile know-how to develop technologies around mobility, such as 6G, in order to further strengthen its competitiveness in other business areas. The basic technologies developed during the 20 years of operation of the mobile telephony department, will be maintained and applied to existing and future products.

The end of the mobile telephony department is expected to be completed by July 31, however, the goods of existing models may be available after this date.

In the photo of this article, you see the LG V60 ThinQ, a mobile ideal for gamers. However, if LG had a sense of humor, then they would have to make the announcement on April Fool's Day.
